Leadership Dalton-Whitfield

Application period: Closed for 2025

About Leadership Dalton-Whitfield

Over ten months, beginning in August and adjourning in May, participants meet monthly for daylong sessions, plus one overnight experience, where they will learn more about the Greater Dalton area, ways to get more involved in the community, and what’s needed to ensure all have an opportunity to thrive in Greater Dalton.

Nominations are accepted each year throughout April. Individuals may nominate themselves or be nominated by a firm, an organization, or another individual. Applications are then distributed to nominees for completion before the end of May. The Chamber will select a maximum of 40 leaders and announce the incoming class roster in July.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Connect: Create meaningful connections with a diverse network of local leaders actively engaging in collaborative discussions, shared initiatives, and peer learning activities across sectors.

Develop: Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the key systems and priorities that shape the local community, including healthcare, education, public safety, economic development, and local and state government.

Advocate: Identify actionable pathways for civic and community engagement by evaluating local challenges and opportunities learned throughout the program, and empowering participants to take informed steps toward meaningful involvement in community leadership and service.

Applicants are evaluated based on:

- Commitment, motivation, and interest in serving the Greater Dalton community

- Demonstration of dedication to civic engagement through previous volunteerism and/or other leadership roles rooted in public service

- Representation of areas such as business, social services, government, cultural, and educational organizations

Please note: Individuals must live and/or work in Greater Dalton as of the time they submit their application.

Participants must meet attendance requirements in order to graduate; therefore, candidates are encouraged to apply only if their calendar accommodates the entirety of the class schedule.

Every year, the LDW class enjoys a day at the Georgia State Capitol, where they have the opportunity to hear from state representatives about issues that impact the community.
